Zionsville Community High School will be wishing 25-year veteran secretary Becky Thornley a happy retirement at the close of the month. Thornley and her family moved to Zionsville in 1985. The former licensed elementary school teacher accepted her secretarial position in spring of 1988. Thornley has witnessed a plethora of changes over the years from the growth of the community to the rise of the computer age. During her first years a great deal of secretarial work was still done by hand. There was no email, no voicemail, and teachers did not have phones in their classrooms. Teachers would call Thornley at home to report their absences, and she would rise at 5:30 a.m. and personally call substitutes. The high school also did not employ a full-time school nurse in those days, so Thornley had to act the part. She quickly became a jack-of-all-trades, well versed in knowing how to do “a little bit of everything.” Suffice it to say that the years have gone by quickly for Thornley, and there has never been a dull moment.

“I’m glad I was able to spend 25 years of my life here. I really have enjoyed every day, as there was always something new and different. It has been a great place to work,” Thornley said.
