Column insensitive to majority’s needs

Editor,

I would like to comment on your From the Backshop entitled “Badmouthing the wealthy” in the Nov. 19 edition of Current in Noblesville. I feel your comments about the president and his attitude about the wealthiest Americans and his handling of the Affordable Care Act are not justified. Articles like these further add to the partisan discord in our country. First, if you watched “60 Minutes” on Sunday evening, you would have learned that Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are involved in a billionaire group that pledges to give away half of their wealth to philanthropic endeavors of their choice. It therefore seems likely that a few extra tax dollars would be well within their financial means. As you know, Buffet is a strong proponent of increasing taxes on the wealthy. Secondly, you attacked the sincerity of the president’s commitment to affordable healthcare for all people. You did not attack the substance of the program. It’s a shame that your views were presented on the same page that featured an article on the Noblesville Fire Dept. seeking assistance from the community for the less fortunate in Noblesville. How many of those less fortunate don’t have health insurance or have sub-par policies? I’m assuming that well-dressed, middle-aged professionals, like yourselves, can afford decent health insurance policies. Articles like this don’t help the citizens of Noblesville (Republicans or Democrats). I give you your right to express your political opinion in the Current, but I think you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel and you’re coming across as trivial and insensitive to the needs of the majority of citizens. If you choose to criticize the current administration, don’t use such misaligned and ridiculous analogies. Do you really think the American consumer wants a sub-standard product? Do you really think that the average citizen is concerned with the financial discomfort the wealthiest 1 percent would feel if they paid additional taxes?
