A single-car motor vehicle accident has claimed the life of a Kokomo man.

At 1:04 a.m. Nov. 3, Noblesville police officers and firefighters responded to the area of 19800 Ind. 37 in reference to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash. A short time later, emergency responders arrived and located the vehicle and its driver.

NPD Spokesman Lt. Bruce A. Barnes stated that based on preliminary information and evidence at the scene, it is believed that the driver of a Ford Mustang was traveling northbound in the 19800 block of Ind. 37 at the time of the crash.

“For reason(s) unknown to investigators at this time, it appears that the vehicle left the right side of the roadway and collided with a guardrail. As a result of the collision, the vehicle came to rest inverted with the driver trapped inside,” Barnes stated.

Members of the NPD’s Accident Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene in order to collect evidence and reconstruct the crash scene. Barnes stated that due to the extensive investigation, Ind. 37 was closed from Allisonville Road to Promise Road for three hours. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene.

The driver, Bryan L. Erb, Jr., 28, of Kokomo did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Barnes said the cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time and no additional information will be available until the investigation has been completed.

“The Noblesville Police Dept. and Hamilton County Coroner’s Office will be investigating the incident. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor at this time,” he stated.
