One of the things that I love about this job is figuring out what makes people passionate about what they do.
What makes someone wake up in the morning, strap on their boots and get out the door intrigues me, and figuring that all out can be challenging, and often rewarding, because at that point, a person is truly sharing something personal about themselves with you.
After watching Fishers Town Council sessions for almost a year-and-a-half, I wonder how staff members hold it all – emotion, passion, etc. – together when something goes right or something goes wrong. Their bosses, the council members are a little bit more cavalier with their thoughts, letting emotion show through their words and tone much more often than staff members. It could all probably be chalked up to professional code, the dynamics of working in a public position and what is expected from them, much like anyone else holding down a job.
Then there’s the folks that are just as passionate about what they do outside their day gigs. From the people out there that blog to their heart’s content (and with varying viewpoints) to the volunteers toiling away at projects and philanthropic endeavors, there are plenty of people that fit the bill in Fishers.
It’s one of the big reasons why this is such a fun community to cover. The amount of involvement from some community members is astounding to me when I consider what organizations they work with professionally and then turn around doing something philanthropic on the side.
I look forward to continuing to cover the best things in life that make people strap on their boots and do good for the community.
