The main terminal building of Indianapolis Executive Airport in Zionsville was rededicated in honor of retiring board president Donald R. Silvey during a ceremony on Aug. 23. The terminal will now be known as the Donald R. Silvey Terminal.
Don Silvey has served as a member of the governing board of the airport since 2004. Silvey has served as president of the board for the past seven years.
Under his leadership, the airport has grown from a small rural airport into one of Indianapolis’ busiest reliever airports, serving communities in Hamilton, Boone and Marion counties. The airport successfully completed the first shovel ready runway resurfacing project in the United States in the summer of 2009 and a ramp expansion in 2012. The airport served as a major center of activity for the Super Bowl and the PGA Golf Championship held at Crooked Stick in 2012. A recent economic impact study showed that the airport supports nearly 2,400 jobs and over $430 million in annual economic activity.
“Don has been an integral part of the continued success of this airport for the last decade, bringing jobs and economic growth to Hamilton County,” said Hamilton County Commissioner Steve Dillinger. “It only seems fitting that upon his retirement we dedicate the terminal building in his honor.”
“We have been fortunate to partner with Don for the last 11 years as we’ve turned this airport into an economic engine for the region,” said Dan Montgomery, airport manager and president of Montgomery Aviation. “We will miss his leadership but are proud to rename the terminal building in his honor as a lasting legacy.”
