Several different species of trees will provide shade, clean air and beauty to the City of Westfield for years to come because residents got involved, got their hands dirty and had some fun during a community project at the city’s Arbor Day tree planting and giveaway on April 27 at Quaker Park, 17501 Dartown Rd.

“We had such a great turnout that we were able to complete the planting very quickly,” Recreation Program Coordinator Stephanie Baumann said. “A total of 49 trees were planted, and we had 500 seedlings to give away. Most of them found their way to good homes, and those that were left are now at the City Service Center, available for pick up.”

The city gave away five different tree species: Norway Spruce, River Birch, Shumard Oak, Black Gum and Flowering Dogwood.
