The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain’s Division will present its annual Junior Law Enforcement Academy on June 28, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Academy is open to Hamilton County children who attended preschool through senior in high school during the 2012-2013 school year. Students are grouped by age with police counselors as they have hands-on activities that help them better understand specific aspects of law enforcement. This year’s theme is integrity and how this foundational principle applies to law enforcement. Activities include SWAT and K9 demonstrations as well as a former professional boxer and a former professional wrestler as featured speakers. Cadets also will get the chance to ride in a patrol car with lights and sirens. Open registration for the Junior Law Enforcement Academy is now through June 1. There is no cost to attend the Academy, which is held at the Hamilton County 4H Fairgrounds. For additional information and an application, contact the Sheriff’s Chaplain’s office at 773-1824.  Academy size is limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis until an age group is full.
