pancakeWhy do most Americans eat pancakes only for Breakfast? During the American Revolution, it was traditional to serve pancakes during dinner. The pancakes were crepe like and consumed in the early afternoon. In the 1780s, cooks started adding a rising agent, pearl ash or now called baking soda, that transformed the pancakes into a thick and fluffy filling meal. This enabled frontier cooks to have a break equivalent on the breakfast tables before the morning farm work began. The thicker pancakes never really caught on as dinner food. The community is invited to help change this perception and join Troop 107 for its third Annual All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Dinner.

Troop 107 will be serving it annual pancake dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Christ UMC, 318 N. Union St., Westfield. The community is invited to attend this meal and all proceeds will go to Troop 107 for equipment budget and scout funds.

Dinner includes all you can eat pancakes, a sausage link, and milk, orange juice and coffee. Additional sausages are two for $1. Pancakes and sausage will be served by the Scouts of Troop 107. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 10 and younger, $20 for a family of five and no charge for children 3 and under.
