Bill sidetracked

The Senate has voted to move a bill that would have expanded mass transit in Central Indiana into a summer study committee. The bill would have allowed area residents to vote on higher income taxes to pay for the proposed 10-year, $1.3-billion project. The expansion proposal would expand mass transit options from Noblesville to downtown Indianapolis with bus service and rail lines. The bill passed the House but encountered Republican opposition in the Senate. Republican Appropriations Committee Chairman Luke Kenley (R-Noblesville) dropped his sponsorship of the bill in March.
