Past Fishers Town Council President and Councilor Walter Kelly was recognized with an award for his work with state and local government last month.

A national organization, the Association of Government Accountants, presented him with the Private Sector Financial Excellence Award at a leadership conference last month.

The award is one that encompasses a person’s career in the field, and the recipient “exemplifies and promotes excellence in state or local government financial management, outstanding leadership, high ethical standards and innovative management techniques” and more.

Kelly put in 21 total years on the council, which was comprised of only three trustees when he started in the late 70s. He resigned to accept a role as a managing partner in the private sector. He now works at the firm CliftonLarsonAllen LLP.

He’s garnered awards, sat on various boards and worked with various groups throughout the years in the financial sector and community.

When asked what’s it’s been like to work with the government throughout the years, Kelly said, “You don’t have enough ink.”
