Two Westfield teenagers were arrested on March 5 by members of the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force for dealing methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as ecstasy.
Brendan J. Estrella, 18, and Cody Clear, 18, were both arrested near 116th Street and Keystone Avenue in Carmel.
Estrella was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on three counts of dealing a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance (ecstasy), a Class B felony; and three counts of possession of a schedule I, II, III, or IV controlled substance (ecstasy), a Class D felony.
Clear was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on one count of dealing a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance (ecstasy), a class B felony.
A Class B felony carries a penalty upon conviction of a fixed term between six and 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. A Class “D” felony is the lowest level of felony crime in Indiana and conviction carries a penalty of six months to three years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
The arrests came after a two-month investigation and officials said this investigation is on-going and more arrests are expected to follow.
Ecstasy is commonly sold in a tablet or pill form. It’s not uncommon for ecstasy to contain other substances such as methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and PCP, which can make using the drug potentially lethal. Ecstasy is a synthetic drug with both stimulant and hallucinogenic qualities. It suppresses the need to eat, drink or sleep and can raise a person’s body temperature to dangerous levels.
