An ambulance transporting a patient from Elwood was involved in a crash in the 24000 block of Ind. 37 in Hamilton County shortly after 8 a.m. on Feb. 2. According to the Sheriff’s Office crash report, the ambulance was traveling southbound on Ind. 37 just north of Florida Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.“The ambulance went off the east side of the road and became airborne for a short time before striking a tree and landing in a ravine,” said Deputy Bryant Orem, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The driver, a medic, and the patient were transported with what were reported as non-life threatening injuries from the scene to Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. Orem said the driver suffered an arm injury and abrasions, the medic had bleeding from a cut on his head, and the patient who was being transported sustained a head injury.
Ind. 37 was closed for approximately two hours while members of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team investigated the incident.
Orem said the ambulance, which was being operated by Eaton EMT and was leased from Lifestar Rescue, was not running in emergency mode at the time of the crash.
