Dr. Joan Temmerman, board certified bariatrician at IU Health Bariatric & Medical Weight Loss, was recently elected to Vice-Chair of The American Board of Bariatric Medicine for 2012-2014, where she served for the past two years as secretary and treasurer. She has also been the chair for the ABBM Board Review Course since 2010.

The ABBM is an independent medical specialty board responsible for certifying physicians in the field of Bariatric Medicine. It is the first and only exam to certify bariatric physicians. They also provide certificate recognition to physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

Dr. Temmerman is an assistant professor of clinical medicine in the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.  Temmerman is also board certified as a family physician  and nutrition specialist. Temmerman has taken initiative to successfully expand the Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program at IU Health Bariatric & Medical Weight Loss.

Dr. Temmerman is a frequent community speaker on wellness and healthy lifestyles.
