Fit Club fits all levels

Community is key for Lora Smith and her Fit Club, a free, weekly fitness and exercise session.

Smith coaches with health and fitness company Team Beachbody on a national level, and Fit Club is its outreach component.

Smith said all ages and all fitness levels are welcome, and the program can be tailored to individuals.

“I want to make sure that anybody that comes in that door, regardless of their fitness level, feels comfortable,” she said. “That’s my goal, and has a good enough experience, feels successful, feels well supported and they want to come back. If somebody leaves feeling defeated, I have failed.”

Participants should expect to try out different workout programs that can be done at home throughout the week. They can also network online for an extra push to meet goals on their own.

“It’s really about having fun, so it’s not a hardcore class,” she said.

But, those at a higher fitness level should also expect to be challenged during the workout session.

She said when most people fail to achieve their health and fitness goals it could be in one of three areas: actual exercise, proper nutrition or having a proper network of people to provide accountability.

“The unique thing about plugging into Fit Club, and really the network you become a part of when you go, is that you have a free coach to keep tabs on you to help you reach your specific goals, who cares whether or not you finish your program or whether or not you come to Fit Club and you’re connecting with other people that are truly your support,” Smith said.

The club meets on Mondays at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, 10500 E. 126th St. from 7 to 8 p.m.

Smith said the number of people that visit Fit Club fluctuates.
