Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness hosted Freetown, Sierra Leone Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr for a ceremonial tree planting at Fishers Rotary Park Dec. 2. The City of Fishers planted a red-tipped maple tree in recognition of Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s Freetown the Tree Town initiative, an effort to plant 1 million trees in the capital city to recover from deforestation and reintroduce biodiversity. Aki-Sawyerr is visiting Fishers for the Fishers Rotary Club’s WaterIsLife Ball, where she is a guest of honor. She was named a member of the 2021 class of TIME100 Next, which highlights 100 emerging world leaders who are shaping the future.
