Indiana Democratic Party stops in Westfield for ARP tour

The Indiana Democratic Party recently conducted more than 25 events across the state as part of an American Rescue Plan tour. Events were conducted in 40 counties, including a June 24 tour stop in Westfield in Hamilton County.

The tour was designed to teach residents about the American Rescue Plan, President Joe Biden’s relief plan following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is really telling the story of the American Rescue Plan and the Biden/Harris effort to make sure that America has the resources it needs to continue to be successful after such a scary time for so many working families,” Indiana Democratic Party Deputy Chair Christina Hale said.

A capacity crowd filled the amphitheater at Asa Bales Park for the June 24 tour stop in Westfield.

“It was full and enthusiastic,” Hale said. “When I was speaking, people were riding their bikes cheering us on as they rode by. There seemed to be a lot of enthusiasm.”
Hale was joined by State Sens. J..D Ford and Fady Qaddoura and Fishers City Council member Jocelyn Vare.

“Our state has received a good deal of money (from ARP), and that was reflected in the budget that passed in a bipartisan way from the Indiana General Assembly,” Hale said. “For the first time in many years, Republicans and Democrats voted for a budget that had a very healthy and robust addition to support our public schools.”

Hale said some of the items the ARP dollars supported was $250 million to improve broadband expansion in the state and providing $500 million for economic development projects. Indiana received $3.2 billion dollars in state fiscal relief and $2.5 billion in local fiscal relief from the plan.
