The Fort Ben Farmers Market returned June 6 in Lawrence at 9230 Memorial Park Dr. The market runs from 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday until October.

This is the third year for the market.

“It’s very family friendly. I’m super big about not only creating a shopping experience but also offering free classes and activities (during the market),” Market Director Mandy Wright-Jarrett said. “The green space is amazing, and the way we have vendors creates a situation for parents to let down their guard. Otis Avenue and Memorial Park Drive will be shut down (during the market), so it makes it a super-safe place to bring children. It’s just a nice place for people to come and play.”

Wright-Jarrett said picnic tables with umbrellas will be available for patrons. She also said the market is Latino-friendly.

“We have a lot of signage in English and Spanish, and we also are going to be starting with English and Spanish social media posts as well,” Wright-Jarrett said. “We feel there’s such a huge (Latino) community in Lawrence.”

Forty vendors will attend market off and on throughout the season, with at least 20 to 25 present each week.

Certain market days will have a theme, such as Mud Day June 27.
