The Town of Whitestown held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 29 for the CR 400 South connector. The connector links CR 400 South and CR 650 East.

The project is the culmination of decades of planning, close to three years of design, and close to two years of construction. According to Tanya Sumner, director of public relations for the Town of Whitestown, this was a true countywide effort.

The new road is regionally significant because it provides a direct connection from I-69 to I-65 on the north side of Indianapolis. The road cost more than $6 million, with $4.6 million coming from federal funds. It was built with future growth in mind, so two additional lanes could be added to make it a four-lane divided roadway.

There is extra right-of-way room to add multi-purpose side paths in the future. The Town of Whitestown asks that drivers watch for bicyclists and pedestrians at the Big 4 Trail crossing. The speed limit is 40 mph along the new road. A traffic study will be done soon to determine if stoplights are warranted at the intersection of Main Street and Albert S. White Drive.
