Young Frankenstein

Series to showcase and pay tribute to Wilder’s talent

Indianapolis film lovers can pay tribute to Gene Wilder, the 83-year-old actor who lost his battle with Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, as some of his biggest films are screened at the Toby at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the IMAX® Theater in the Indiana State Museum this weekend.

Wilder began his film career in the 1967 film “The Producers, ” and became known for a sequence of unforgettable and iconic comedy roles in the ‘ 70s and ‘ 80s.  The film screenings for this weekend are:

“Young Frankenstein,” at 7 p.m., Sept. 2 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art Toby Theater.

“Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory,” at 11 a.m., Sept. 3  at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum. This screening will be accompanied by a “concession stand takeover” where Wonka candy will be rampant.

“Blazing Saddles,” at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 3 at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum.

Tickets for all screenings are $5 each and can be purchased online or at the box office the day of the film.  Tickets for the “Young Frankenstein” screening at the IMA can be purchased at imamuseum.org/film/special-screening-young-frankenstein and tickets for the two screenings at the Downtown IMAX can be purchased at imaxindy.com.

“I can’t think of a better way to articulate how important Gene Wilder was to film,” stated IMAX theater manager Craig Mince. “We will be honoring a part of his legacy this weekend with these iconic films.”
