Carmel Clay School Board recap

Compiled by Maggie Smith

What happened:

The school board members, assistant superintendents, and superintendent reviewed 2012-2013 I-STEP results, student end of course assessment test results, SAT scores and ACT scores.

What it means:

Highlights I-STEP results:

Highlights of end-of-course assessments: Dudley explained that all students must pass the end-of-course assessments for Grade 10 English and Grade 10 Algebra to graduate from Carmel High School. The pass/fail percentages for 2012-3013 were nearly the same as last year.

Highlights ACT/SAT results: The average SAT scores for Carmel students decreased by a few points in 2012-13 compared to 2011-12, but they are still above the state and national averages. The average ACT scores for 2012-13 were down slightly, but they still are above the state average.

What’s next:

The results will be discussed at the next school board meeting on Nov. 25.
