Restrictions at U.S. 31 and 151st Street begin today

Indiana Department of Transportation contractors plan to begin lane restrictions near the intersection of U.S. 31 and 151st Street today. These lane restrictions are expected to last approximately three weeks:

• The eastbound 151st Street right turn lane to southbound U.S. 31 will be closed.

• One lane of eastbound 151st Street will be restricted near the intersection of Thatcher Lane.

• One southbound U.S. 31 left turn lane to eastbound 151st Street will be closed.

Crews will be boring under the roadway to relocate and lower a 12-inch water line. This work must be done in advance of construction that will upgrade the intersection to a “split-diamond” interchange which will connect with Greyhound Pass and 146th Street.

The upgrade is part of The New U.S. 31 Hamilton County, a project to bring U.S. 31 to freeway standards from I-465 to State Road 38. INDOT is hosting a public open house to present project updates and plans for the 13-mile corridor upgrade from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Westfield Middle School cafeteria. The open house format allows community members an opportunity to speak one-on-one with INDOT representatives and project team members. A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m.
