Fishers to celebrate MLK Jr. Day Jan. 15-18

The City of Fishers and Fishers Parks is conducting a citywide Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration from Jan. 15 through Jan. 18.

The city is planning several different ways to celebrate, such as with the I Have a Dream Driving Tour, in which Fishers Parks is distributing 500 fill-in-the-blank style yard signs and markers on a first-come, first-served basis for residents. After the celebration, residents can recycle their signs by dropping off at the Fishers Parks office between noon and 6 p.m. on Jan. 20 and 21; the MLK Memorial Spotify Playlist, which is curated by Fishers Parks and offers famous speeches, hymns and period music; the 2,000 Acts of Kindness Challenge, which concludes on MLK Jr. Day; the #VolunteerFishers Pledge, which celebrates the national day of service and allows residents to share how they plan to give back in 2021; the Volunteer with Fishers DPW, which allows residents to help the Fishers Dept. of Public Works spread recycle Christmas tree mulch at Billericay Park Jan. 16 and the virtual celebration, which is a blog post about suggested readings from the Hamilton East Public Library relating to Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.
