Beaver Materials withdraws petition for gravel extraction site in Noblesville

Beaver Materials withdrew its petition for a gravel extraction site proposed northwest of 191st Street and Allisonville Road. The proposal received no recommendation from Noblesville’s plan commission after the plan commission couldn’t agree on whether or not to send the proposal to the council with a favorable recommendation at its Nov. 16 meeting. The proposal was scheduled to appear before the Noblesville Common Council for an introduction at its Dec. 8 meeting. Although the council wasn’t scheduled to vote on the project, Beaver Materials withdrew its proposal and will not appear before council at the Dec. 8 meeting.
Beaver Materials pledged to donate 10 acres of the 50-acre project to the Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Dept. after council approval the zoning change and the property was purchased. The proposal was met with resistance from residents in the area who formed a group opposing the project called “Don’t Leave it to Beaver.” The group cited concerns such as air pollution, traffic, water quality and more. The extraction site was proposed to be in use for roughly 10 years, after which the remaining land would be donated to the Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Dept.
Beaver Materials has the opportunity to refile its zoning change request in the future.
