Carmel High School senior Yumi Colombo knows this “Holiday Spectacular” will be different without a live audience.
However, Colombo is just happy the show is going on. The annual holiday show will be livestreamed Dec. 18-20.
“The thing I like most about the music of this ‘Holiday Spectacular’ is that the songs are fun and a perfect mix of songs everyone knows and new songs or hidden treasures that the directors have found,” Colombo said. “The theme ‘Home for the Holidays’ is probably my favorite one compared to the themes of my four years. This theme is my favorite because home and family are two things I associate with the holidays and that time of year.
“I think the way we are incorporating the City of Carmel and our community is also super special and a great way to uplift spirits during the current pandemic.”
Colombo said she is glad to perform with friends and classmates during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Even though a lot of things have changed, one thing I have been grateful to look forward to is singing and dancing in Carmel Choirs,” she said. “The choir I am a part of, Accents, is a family to me. We are a sisterhood, and I am so thankful to be able to perform with those wonderful girls and to have Mrs. (Kathrine) Kouns as a teacher and as a mentor for life.”
Colombo performed in one of the videos used as a transition for the concert.
“For one of Accents’ performances, a group of us girls get to have an exclusive interview with Santa Claus about his work during the holidays,” Colombo said. “This then leads into an introduction to our song using the fun little skit.”
The show will be streamed at 7 p.m. Dec. 18, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 the link youtu.be/T_VmCvo2YIQ.
“This show is typically our largest fundraiser of the year,” said Kouns, CHS director of choirs. “Due to copyright restrictions, we will not be charging for people to view this year’s show, but we would very much appreciate any financial support that the community can offer. We are hoping that people will donate the amount that they would have spent on tickets to see the show in person.”
