Carmel Symphony Orchestra launches ‘Hope Renewed’ Masterworks Series

“Hope Renewed” is the title for the Carmel Symphony Orchestra 2020-21 season’s Masterworks Series. The first concert set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Palladium in The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel. The performance includes Bartok’s “Romanian Folk Dances,” Grieg’s “Holberg Suite” and Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings.”

Thd Masterworks 2, featuring Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 1 in C Major,” Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major” and Rossini’s “Barber of Seville Overture,” is set for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14. The concert will feature CSO’s 2019 Young Artist Competition Winner, Cooper Olsen.

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra sponsors the annual CSO Young Artists Competition, a unique and prestigious concerto competition allowing Indiana student musicians the opportunity to compete against their peers at the highest level of artistic excellence and have the experience of performing in the Palladium.

Olsen was 14 when he won the CSO Young Artist distinction. He is a freshman at Bloomington North High School. He won the Young Artist Competition with a performance of Saint-Saens’ “Violin Concerto No. 3, 3rd Movement” and studies with Mimi Zweig, professor of music at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

The Holiday Pops Concerts presented by IU Health Dec. 12 will cap off 2020 with shows at 3 and 7:30 p.m. The concerts, designed for all ages, will feature singer Heather Bays, a Carmel resident.

Bays is now a first call studio singer in the Indianapolis, Nashville, Tenn., and Chicago areas, where she records voice-overs, jingles, choral demos, film scores and video games. Her versatility and experience have given her the opportunity to perform and record with many significant artists, including Hans Zimmer, Disney, EA games, Bill Gaither, Sandi Patty and Josh Kaufmann, to name just a few, and companies throughout the past several years. She is a seasoned performer and has sung the national anthem Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever games and has performed as a featured artist with many symphonies across the U.S.

The 2021 Masterworks concerts are Feb. 13, March 13 and April 24. Single tickets for the Masterworks concerts, as well as the Holiday Pops Concerts, are now on sale. For more, visit carmelsymphony.org.
