Two people are dead and one person injured in a shooting that took place at approximately 8 a.m. in the Spring Creek neighborhood in northeast Carmel.

Police said two people had been shot by the time officers responded to Rippling Brook Way and Creek Bend Drive. One of them has been pronounced dead, and the other person has been taken to the hospital. Police did not provide information on the survivor’s condition.

The suspect was shot dead after the Carmel Police Dept. responded, although they did not confirm if a CPD officer shot the suspect.

CPD confirmed that an officer fired shots during the incident, which led to multiple crime scenes in the area.

Police did not release any further details about the people who had been shot or the circumstances that led to the shooting.

CPD is asking people to avoid the area as the investigation continues. The public is not believed to be in danger. Police are asking anyone with information to contact CPD at 317-571-2580.

Laura Cooper, who lives in the neighborhood with her husband and two young children, said she learned of the incident when she received an alert from the NextDoor app about police activity in the neighborhood.

She said many police officers are in the neighborhood and have been turning people away from the area. She said she wasn’t aware of anything unusual or suspicious in the neighborhood before the incident.

“I would not have thought it would’ve happened here,” she said. “We’ve always felt really safe here. We are outside a lot. It’s a great neighborhood to walk around in with lots of families around. I would’ve had no thought that this would’ve happened here.”
