The City of Carmel is asking the U.S. Postal Service to change the city name from Indianapolis to Carmel for residents in the 46290 ZIP code, which is primarily west of Meridian Street and north of I-465.
USPS recently approved the change for residents in the 46280 ZIP code, which includes the Home Place area. The change will go into effect July 1.
“I am pursuing the change in the address line for ZIP code 46290 now after the favorable decision by the USPS headquarters on ZIP code 46280 and recently hearing from residents within ZIP code 46290 requesting the same change,” Brainard stated in a press release. “This address change will help postal customers within ZIP code 46290 be better identified as Carmel residents and businesses.”
