Witham Health Services announced today that their extended care unit would no longer allow visitors in response to the new coronavirus.

Due to the significant rise in viral illness activity in our community, visitor restrictions are in effect for the safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff,” the hospital stated in a social media post. “We apologize for the inconvenience to our community but the restrictions are necessary to protect and provide a safe environment for our immune-compromised patients and our staff. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.”

The move comes after Indiana’s number of COVID-19 presumptive positive cases jumped to 12 this morning, according to the Indiana State Dept. of Health. COVID-19 is a disease stemming from the new coronavirus.

More updates on the new coronavirus will be posted as they unfold.
