Indianapolis resident Tanorria Askew will showcase her southern roots when she conducts a cooking demonstration for shrimp and grits at Feb. 25 at the Fishers Test Kitchen Signature Table, 9713 District North Dr., Suite 1210.

The event is from 7 to 9 p.m. and the cost is $75. Attendees will get to sample shrimp and grits and Askew’s bread pudding.

Askew’s shrimp and grits recipe is the same one she prepared on the TV show “MasterChef” in 2016.

“I will be featuring my shrimp and grits, which is my claim to fame,” she said. “My shrimp and grits are a very classic southern shrimp and grits with andouille sausage, which is popular in New Orleans, as well as Creole and Cajun spices. What makes mine really unique is I put deep-fried okra on top, which is just a nod to my Southern roots and the style of cooking I grew up on.  Gordon Ramsey said it was the best shrimp and grits he’s ever had on ‘MasterChef.’”

Askew will demonstrate how to prepare he dish. Attendees will not cook themselves.

“I’ll be explaining my process for making my shrimp and grits, talking about my time on ‘MasterChef,’ and all the guests will be able to eat the shrimp and grits,” Askew said.
