Developer withdraws plans for townhomes on Sherman Drive

Developer AZR Haver has withdrawn plans for four townhomes on the southeast corner of Main Street and Sherman Drive.

The Carmel Plan Commission’s residential committee was set to discuss the proposal at its Oct. 1 meeting, but the item was pulled from the agenda earlier in the day.

Many residents of the adjacent Johnson Addition neighborhood had opposed the plan. They told the commission at a meeting in August they were concerned about the project changing the character of the area and leading to subsequent proposals that could do the same.

The two-story, mid-century modern townhomes were proposed on .43 acres, which is currently the site of a single-family dwelling.

Developers must wait three months before submitting another proposal on the site.
