The Cat is looking for a dog.

Perry Accetturo of The Cat said theater representatives will be at the Art of the Dog from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Carmel Arts & Design District to let dog owners know about auditions for Sandy, the dog, for “Annie.”

“We are looking for a dog that is well-mannered, is OK with the kids in the show, is OK with big crowds and being on stage,” Accetturo said. “We’re going to fill the stage with the cast and have them laugh and clap and see how the dog reacts to that and stage lights. The dog that meshes well with all those elements is the dog we are going to ultimately extend an offer to. Theatrical, I’ve seen ‘Sandys’ that look exactly like the movie and I’ve seen ‘Sandys’ that look like little Yorkshire terriers like Toto.”

The world premiere of the repertory production of the musicals “Annie” and “Annie Warbucks” will open Nov. 14 and run through Dec. 1 at The Cat. A dog has already been cast for the performances of “Annie Warbucks.”

Accetturo said The Cat is taking RSVPs for auditions, which will be 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at The Cat, 254 Veterans Way, Carmel.

Email [email protected] to RSVP.

The Art of the Dog raises money fo the Indiana Canine Assistance Network, the only accredited service dog training program in Indiana. Admission to the event is free, but there are charges for some of the activities to raise funds for ICAN. The event will be held on 2nd Avenue NW, which will be closed for the activities.
