Man arrested after Carmel shooting; two shot

A man was arrested July 28 following a shooting with two victims earlier that morning.
Carmel Police Dept. were called to 325 E. 106th St. at approximately 7:05 a.m. on the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Mark Cowherd with a gunshot wound to the chest. Cowherd was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. Officers obtained information about a second victim and then located Tina Naughgle, who had a gunshot wound to her leg. She also was transported to a nearby hospital, was treated and released.

The suspect, Rodney Upshaw, Indianapolis, was located and arrested with assistance by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Dept. Upshaw was arrested on the following alleged charges: domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, battery by means of a deadly weapon, two counts attempted murder, carrying a handgun without a license, burglary committed while armed with a deadly weapon and burglary of a dwelling which resulted in serious bodily injury.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office also assisted CPD. The case is still under investigation. If anyone has information about the case, contact the CPD Criminal Investigation Division at 317-571-2551 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
