Pedestrian struck on Monon Trail crosswalk at 161st Street


At approximately 8:06 a.m. July 11, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the Monon Trail crosswalk at 161st Street in Westfield.

According to a press release from the Westfield Police Dept., the pedestrian was running northbound on the trail and the vehicle was traveling eastbound. The pedestrian then entered the vehicle’s travel lane and was struck.

The pedestrian was alert and conscious on the scene and was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The crash closed 161st Street between U.S. 31 and Oak Ridge Road for several hours. The road has now reopened.

The crash is currently under investigation.
