Pedestrian killed by pickup truck on City Center Drive

A Carmel man died after being struck by a pickup truck shortly after 7 a.m. July 11 on City Center Drive.

Carmel police said a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Coty Coffman of Indianapolis was traveling eastbound when it struck Thomas McAllister, 81. McAllister was crossing the road near Timber Creek Drive, which is not a designated crosswalk.

Investigators believe glare from the sun may have been a factor in the accident. Coffman remained on scene and cooperated with police. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been a contributing factor.

Police said it is not known if charges will be filed against Coffman. City Center Drive was shut down between Guilford Road and Clark Street for several hours during the investigation.
