Saxony Market celebrates 10th year in Fishers

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Saxony Market continues to grow.

The market, sponsored by IU Health Saxony Hospital, began with 20 vendors, selling produce, baked goods and crafts, in 2010. The market, at 131st Street and Olio Road, runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. The hours are new this year as markets previously went until 1 p.m., but Candi McKinnies-Shreve, marketing manager for Saxony Management Company, said it decided to focus on its busiest first three hours.

The market opened May 18 and closes Sept. 7.

“In order to increase our vendor list each year to fill the 30-plus booth roster, we add new vendors to the list of market favorites,” McKinnies-Shreve said. “We look for those vendors who have a unique product offering or are just starting out to keep the shopping experience fresh. Every Saturday, the market enjoys many shoppers browsing for local produce, baked goods and handmade artisan items. Special event days bring in even larger crowds.”

The special events are June 15: Pet Day (featuring Hamilton County Humane Society); July 13: Kids Day (several children’s activities, including a scavenger hunt, bounce house, balloon artist and air-brush tattoos); July 27: Corn Day (celebrating Indiana Sweet Corn Season with free roasting ears of corn featuring 4-H Clovers.); Aug. 3:  Superhero Day; Aug.17: Health & Wellness Day (presented by IU Health Saxony Hospital); and Sept. 7: Balloon Day (free tethered hot air balloon rides, weather-permitting, presented by RE/MAX).

In addition, there is live music and children’s entertainment each week.

“Saxony Market is definitely known for its great live acoustic music schedule,” McKinnies-Shreve said.

The Generation Gap will perform June 8. Other artists featured this summer include Stella Luna Trio, The Good Vibe, Groove Smash Duo, The 78’s, Blonde Sonja Trio and Craig Thurston.
