American Legion Post 79 wants to raise approximately $7,000 at two pancake breakfasts to pay for repairs needed on the 1956 firetruck the post uses in parades and at special events.

Post manager DeeDee Woodrum said the post has owned the firetruck for at least 50 years.

“It needs new rotors, new brakes and then a whole new paint job,” Woodrum said.

The breakfasts will be from 7 to 11:30 a.m. May 18 and July 20 at the post, 9950 E. 600 S. Admisson for the all-you-can-eat breakfast is $8 for adults and $4 for children 6 and under. There will be two bounce houses at the first event and also one silent auction item.

“I came up with the idea of doing one silent auction item and put out on stage the family that bids the highest gets to ride on the firetruck during the fall festival parade,” Woodrum said. “I thought it might be a good way to get the families involved in the parade and a good fundraiser for the firetruck.”

Several organizations are donating items for the breakfasts. For more or to donate, call the post at 317-873-3105.
