On May 8, the Zionsville Police Dept. arrested James Earl Hughes, 23, of Zionsville, for the April 28 murder of Samuel Bennett, also of Zionsville.
Bennett’s body was discovered near the Big-4 Rail Trail in a retention pond area early in the morning. An autopsy showed he was shot twice.
Evidence was collected at the scene and also through 12 search warrants, which led to the probable cause that Hughes committed the murder. Hughes was taken into custody May 8 in Indianapolis and then transported to the Boone County Jail. There is no bail.
