From left, Common Council Vice President Tom Shevlot, Lawrence Fire Dept. Chief Dino Batalis, Capt. Adam Reine and Mayor Steve Collier took part in ceremonies at Station 36 March 21 to officially put the city’s new fire engine into service. The ceremony included the tradition of spraying the new engine with water from the retired engine as firefighters from Lawrence pushed the new equipment into its bay. Batalis said the retired vehicle was purchased in 2004 with a projected lifespan of five to seven years. (Submitted photo)
