Boys & Girls Club earns grant for meal program

A grant recently received by the Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville will help in continuing a successful meal and snack program through the end of the year.

Earlier this month, BGCN officials announced the club was a recipient of a $2,500 grant from the Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation.

Meals to Members is a program started by BGCN to provide healthy meals and snacks to club members throughout each week. Club staff serves a snack to all members during its after-school programming and evening meals to all members  each Monday and Thursday in partnership with Second Helpings and other local organizations. In addition, weekend snack packs to all members are sent out on Friday afternoons.

In 2018, BGCN served 64,467 healthy snacks and 5,685 nutritious meals to its members.

“It is amazing to see how many of our members participate in the meals and snack programs,” said Mike Gilbert, a BGCN board member. “In many instances, the meals and snacks the club provides may be the only balanced, nutritious meals a child receives throughout the week. With the generosity and support of the Hastings Mutual Charitable Foundation, we are able to continue to offer healthy food programs to our members who need our services the most.”

The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation’s primary mission is to fund essential needs of living, including food, clothing and medical services for at-risk youth and financially challenged or catastrophe-stricken families, and to provide other support for the general welfare and betterment of the community.

Based in Hastings, Mich., the foundation reaches Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
