A donation of $10,000 was given to Stonegate Elementary School by Burlington Stores, Inc. in celebration of its new store in Whitestown, and through its partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org.
Zionsville Community Schools Supt. Scott Robison said this is the first time a retail store has given a donation to Stonegate Elementary School.
“We’re ecstatic,” Robison said. “And we are very grateful to Burlington for their generous support of our classrooms.”
Robison said Burlington has made donations to other schools in areas where the company has opened a new store.
In partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, Burlington donates to a local school in each grand-opening market to celebrate a new store.
“We are the fortunate beneficiary because we are the closest Title I school near their new location,” Robison said.
The donation will be used for classroom supplies, Robison said.
Earlier in the month, Burlington representatives presented the $10,000 check to Stonegate Principal Connie Largent during an assembly at the school.
Robison said the assembly allowed teachers from each grade level to reinforce the “traits of success” that the school has been promoting via its Strong in Every Way human capital campaign.
“After some student testimonials and celebrations about each of the traits, they were surprised when the manager for the soon-to-open Burlington store near the school presented the large check and spoke about support for the Stonegate teachers in their work with and for young people,” Robison said.
