Magic Thread Cabaret presents Lingner March 29 to 31

Cory Lingner grew up in Indianapolis performing in dance competitions.

Lingner has proven that he can act and sing, having appeared in Broadway shows such as “Carousel,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “An American In Paris” and “On the Town.”

So, a bit tongue-in-cheek, he decided to call his Magic Thread Cabaret show, “Cory Lingner: Just a Dancer.” Lingner will perform at 7:30 p.m. March 29 and 30 and 4 p.m. March 31 at The Cat Theatre, 254 Veterans Way, Carmel.

“I didn’t get into musical theater until high school,” Lingner said. “I wanted the theme of the show, since I was coming back home, to be about dance because it’s a huge part of my life. But maybe I’m a little bit more than just a dancer.”

Lingner graduated from University High School in Carmel in 2009.

“At University we did two shows every year, a play in the fall and a musical in the spring,” Lingner said. “I was able to do seven of the eight possible shows.”

Lingner talked with MTC founders Tom Alvarez and Dustin Klein about developing a show. Lingner surprised performer Melissa Schott by showing up at her MTC show in 2018.

“She asked me to sing duet with her the final two shows, which was very flattering,” Lingner said. “Melissa and I first met doing a production of ‘42nd Street’ at Footlite Musicals in 2005. She was cast as Peggy Sawyer and I was in the ensemble. Melissa and I fell in love with musical theater from there.”

Schott will join Lingner for some duets for the three shows. Westfield Middle School seventh-grader Keegan Connor, a two-time CarmelFest Has Talent winner, will appear with Lingner as well.

“She’s so talented and I’m excited to showcase her even more,” Lingner said. “We’re going to sing a duet together.”

Lingner will sing some Great American Songbook and show tunes and a few pop songs.

Tickets are $35 and $25 and are available at magicthreadcabaret.com.
