Moontown hosts soulful New Year’s Eve

Moontown Brewing Company hosted a New Year’s Eve party Dec. 31. The sold-out event included live soul music by the Chamber Music Band, an appetizer buffet and a midnight champagne toast.

“We sold the concert out and had 225 people attend, which is our capacity,” said Georgia Rheinhardt, marketing and events manager at Moontown.

New Year’s Eve fell on a Monday night, when the brewery is typically closed.

“We thought of it as an opportunity to do something fun,” Reinhardt said. “There were not a lot of parties happening in this part of Indianapolis and people who live up here wanted something fun to do.”

The featured band, Chamber Music Band, formed in late 2014 after meeting through the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. Besides being connected through their chamber employment, the members realized they also shared a love for Motown and soul music. Reinhardt said the group played high-energy, danceable music, including covers of Beyoncé, Michael Jackson and Prince songs.

The New Year’s Eve event was a first for Moontown, which opened in March 2018. According to Reinhardt, the attendees were a mix of regulars and new faces.

“We had no idea what the response was going to be,” Reinhardt said, “but it’s something we will definitely do again because the response was overwhelmingly positive.”

A limited menu featuring appetizer items such as stuffed mushrooms, jalapeno poppers and charcuterie plates was available. Reinhardt said the brewery’s new chef, Ian Tirmenstein, executed the menu well. Tirmenstein recently joined the team and is gradually updating the menu.

“We’re keeping the style of our food and adding (Tirmenstein’s) new twist on it,” Reinhardt said. “We’re excited to play with new flavors.”

New menu items will be introduced in the coming weeks. For upcoming events and menu changes, visit moontownbeer.com.
