On Saturday morning, police released information about a fatal crash from the evening of Dec. 21 in north Noblesville.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has since identified the deceased, who was driving the vehicle, and another who was injured, a passenger, in the one-car crash.

The deceased driver was identified as Nicholas Griffin, 22, Cicero. The injured passenger is Katherine I. Carlos Quispe, 23, Chicago. Police said Carlos Quispe suffered significant injuries, including a head injury.

Both Griffin and Carlos Quispe were ejected from the 2018 Nissan Altima after it crashed into a guardrail on Strawtown Avenue. Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, and Carlos Quispe was transported by ground ambulance to St. Vincent in Indianapolis.

Dispatchers first received notification of the crash near Joyce Avenue at 10:40 p.m., near Strawtown Koteewi Park.

Crash investigators said they believe the Altima was eastbound on Strawtown Avenue when it left the road, struck a culvert and went into a ditch before returning to the road where it overturned and stopped when it hit the guardrail.

HCSO officials said witnesses told investigators the Nissan was traveling at a high rate of speed and was swerving along the pavement prior to the crash. Police said they are working to determine what led to the fatal crash, including if alcohol or drugs may have been a contributing factor.

Anyone with information on this incident is being asked to contact Hamilton County Public Safety Communications at 317-773-1282.
