The Great Pumpkin Run 5K’s Cincinnati race placed third for the Top U.S. 5Ks at The Running Event conference in Austin, Texas. The Great Pumpkin Run, created by Sour Fish Events occurred locally Sept. 29 at Dull’s Tree Farm in Thorntown.

The race was included in The BibRave 100, a list of the top 100 races in the U.S., for its scenery, organization and unique fall theme. BibRave 100 judging took place during the Nov. 27-30 conference.

“Nominations were open for the categories over the summer,” Young said. “Past participants were able to nominate their favorite races for the list.”

Once nominations were received, BibRave determined the top 15. From there, voting was open and participants and runners across America voted for their favorite races. BibRave tallies the votes and works with industry professionals to look at all aspects of the race and determine winners.

The first Great Pumpkin Run 5K was in 2012. SourFish added an Indiana Great Pumpkin Run in 2016, hosted by Dull’s Tree Farm.

“We work year-round to produce this event,” Young said. “We always say that we produce events we would want to participate in and want it to be insanely well-organized. To win the award shows that everything we do and work toward is appreciated by our participants and does not go unnoticed in the industry.”
