Tiny Wonderland returns for holidays

When Try It Tiny sponsored its first event to showcase tiny home living last year, owner Maggie Daniels had no expectations.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” she said. “This year, if it’s similar to last year, I’ll be very happy.”

More than 3,000 people attended the Lions Park event, which Daniels said helped boost awareness for tiny home rental and lifestyle.

This year, she’d like to create the same interest when Tiny Wonderland comes to the Whitestown Municipal Complex Dec. 14 through 16.

In advance of the event, Daniels is hosting a scavenger hunt to find a tiny home hidden somewhere in central Indiana. Every Monday, the house will move to a different spot with a clue posted to Try It Tiny’s social media. By taking a photo in front of the house and posting it online, participants can enter weekly drawings to win two tickets to Tiny Wonderland.

“With red and white stripes (on the tiny home), it’s like Where’s Waldo,” Daniels said.

Rules are listed at facebook.com/tryittiny.

During Tiny Wonderland, a variety of boutiques and vendors will be open, many with ties to minimalist living and some with holiday shopping options.

A range of 20 professionally and self-built homes will be showcased, many available for rent or purchase. Luke Thill, an Iowa teen who built his own tiny house, is planning to attend to answer questions about his project.

“You get the spectrum of DIY to professional builds, a wealth of resources,” Daniels said.

Tiny Wonderland opens Dec. 14 from 3 to 8 p.m. with live music and food trucks. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

On Dec. 15, homes are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., coinciding with the free Santa workshop and parade in the Municipal Complex. Dec. 16 hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tickets, available at TryItTiny.com, are $10 until Nov. 25. They increase to $12 after that and are $15 at the event. Children 10 and under are free.
