Zionsville builders win Home-A-Rama award

Kent and Randy Shaffer have a long history in the home building business. The brothers and Zionsville residents are second-generation builders who learned the craft from their father, Bob Shaffer of Design Classics. Kent owns Kent Shaffer Homes and Randy owns Randy Shaffer Custom Homes.

They participated together in this year’s Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis Home-A-Rama to build a modern farmhouse in Westfield’s Chatham Hills community.

“It’s a 6,800-square-foot smart house,” Randy said. “It’s got up-to-date everything. It’s on the golf course with a walkout basement which makes it even nicer.”

The Shaffers partnered with Jacqueline K Interior Design for the home decor and Morningstar Landscaping for the landscape design.

The home competed against five others to win the People’s Choice Award at the Home-A-Rama, an event that showcases the work of hand-selected builders, designers and suppliers in the greater Indianapolis area.

“It’s a huge boost to our business. It tells you what kind of work we do when it comes to craftsmanship and how we build our homes,” Randy said. “I think it’s a reflection on years of experience.”

The family run businesses will continue to grow with Kent’s daughter, Kristen Hale, joining the team at Kent Shaffer Homes. The brothers’ next project will be building in a new development called Holliday Farms in Zionsville. The project is being developed by Henke Development Group LLC.
