“Pocket neighborhoods are still a new concept here in the midwest,” said Megan Leahy, Marketing Director for Inglenook of Zionsville. “The idea is a neighborhood within a neighborhood. The neighborhood itself is designed with the homes facing green spaces.”

The residences are cottage homes with large front porches to promote neighbor interaction.

“We’re trying to promote a sense of community,” Leahy said. “In the past, neighbors would have spontaneous potluck dinners, barbeque on the green belt or just borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor. We want to try and bring that back.”

Houses are connected through pedestrian pathways.

“It’s really bringing back that sense of that neighbors or more than just neighbors, they’re friends,” Leahy said.

Inglenook developer Land Development & Building, LLC is inviting the community to visit the neighborhood during the first official Muddy Boot Tour and Porch Party Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon.

“We want to give people the opportunity to get a feel for a pocket neighborhood and see some of our cottage homes under construction,” Leahy said. “All the homeowners who currently live there and the others that are planning to move in later will be there.”

Leahy said the best way to experience cottage living in a pocket neighborhood is firsthand.

“When you pull into a pocket neighborhood you feel the difference, and when you meet the people who are Inglenook, you experience the difference,” she said.
