Mayor names new parks director for the City of Fishers

Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness appointed Sarah Sandquist as the new director for Fishers Parks and Recreation Aug. 24.

Sandquist will replace former director Tony Elliot. Elliot accepted a position as parks and recreation director in Santa Cruz, Calif. Sandquist served as the assistant director since February.

“It is an honor to be selected to continue to serve Fishers in this new role. Our parks, recreation activities, and events are essential to building community and a sense of place,” Sandquist stated. “I look forward to collaborating with the community and continuing to grow our opportunities.”

Sandquist will officially begin her position Aug. 31. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prior to serving with the City of Fishers, Sandquist was the recreation supervisor for Kirkland, Wash. There, she managed operations of a full-service community center.

Sandquist is heavily involved with the National Recreation and Parks Association and has 15 years of experience.
