Matejka reads at Poetry on Brick Street

Each month, Poetry on Brick Street features a guest poet, followed by an open mic. The event is sponsored by the Indiana Humanities Novel Conversations Speaker Program and SullivanMunce Cultural Center.

Adrian Matejka spoke June 7, reading from his work, “Map to the Stars.” Matejka was born in Nuremberg, Germany and grew up in California and Indiana. He is a graduate of Indiana University and the MFA program at Southern Illinois University. He is the author of “The Devil’s Garden” (Alice James Books, 2003) and “Mixology” (Penguin, 2009). His third book, “The Big Smoke” (Penguin, 2013), was awarded the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize in poetry.  His most recent book, “Map to the Stars,” which contains a poem with the same title, was released from Penguin in March 2017. Matejka teaches in the MFA program at Indiana University in Bloomington and is working on a new collection of poems, “Hearing Damage”, and a graphic novel.
