Following a shooting at Noblesville West Middle School this morning, Noblesville police and Supt. Beth Niedermeyer provided an update during a media conference at 11:20 a.m.

the call for the active shooter came in at 9:06 a.m., and there were two injuries — one juvenile victim and an adult teacher. Their families have been notified and they have been transported to Riley Hospital for Children and Methodist Hospital respectively.

Lt. Bruce Barnes said since the situation is still ongoing, law enforcement officials need to keep some information close to them to maximize their efforts in keeping kids safe.

A male student at NWMS was detained, and police believe there is no reason to believe this threat was in connection anywhere else.

A threat was also called into Noblesville High School, but so far there is no information available other than it was a communicated threat.

The FBI and Alcohol Tobacco Firearms are assisting with the investigation.

Parents may pick up their students at any Noblesville schools, but a regular dismissal also is scheduled.

“Our hearts go out to everyone that’s been involved in this horrific tragedy,” Niedermeyer said. “We want to thank our teachers and administration for their quick actions in responding.”

Another conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Fox Prairie Golf Course.

Vice President Mike Pence issued the following statement:

“Karen and I are praying for the victims of the terrible shooting in Indiana. To everyone in the Noblesville community – you are on our hearts and in our prayers. Thanks for the swift response by Hoosier law enforcement and first responders.”
